In all likelihood, you have encountered some of our Igbo brothers meeting you as you enter a market with the question " Wetin you want ? "
The really exciting thing is that, it hardly matters what you then say you want, because the unfailing answer is " We get am for our shop". This is the point at which they loose most of us, because the reaction of the average Nigerian is to conclude that they can only be fake. He sees them more like a marketing equivalent of Gbogbonise, the medicine that cures all diseases.
For those who have been daring enough to give them the slightest of chances, they soon discover that the young man leads them to a shop where the cited item is indeed available and , subject to a successful negotiation, they may pick up the object of their desire.
How does this happen ? Does the soliciting marketer know in advance that you were coming to the market to pick up the said item ?
Here is how it works.
In all likelihood, the soliciting marketer did not know that you were coming to the market for the said item and indeed, it would not have mattered what item you mentioned. He does not own a shop . He is an affiliate of a number of shops. Depending on which item you mentioned, he takes you to the appropriate shop, leaves you and the shop owner to reach an agreement and later collects a commission for being the one who linked up the two of you.
A similar mode of doing business applies on the internet.
On the internet, the website is the equivalent of a shop. Affiliate marketers are the equivalent of this soliciting marketer. An affiliate of a website has a link like this https://www.rightrise.com/?r=dudumodu which when you click it through enables the website owner to know that the particular affiliate identified in their books as 987832baf0cc68 was the one who introduced you to their website. Accordingly therefore, the affiliate earns a commission on the business that you do through the website or the company that the said website represents.
